The course “Basic Mediator Skills” [2 modules of 3 days] will be particularly useful for those who intend to provide services as an independent mediator, as well as to provide out-of-court conflict resolution services as a “collaborative lawyer” (independent consultant).

The focus will be on practical exercises and role-playing games in small groups and individual sessions with individual feedback from teachers. Time will be allocated individually to each participant according to their needs.

About 80% of the second module is devoted to simulations of conflicts in various fields of activity. The second module plans to make extensive use of role-playing games, in particular to address many specific issues related to the specifics of mediation in corporate disputes.

The program is aimed at developing participants with the skills of an effective mediator who is:

  • Able to create a mediation-friendly atmosphere;
  • Promotes communication and interaction between the parties;
  • Has perfect process skills;
  • Establishes and maintains an effective working structure for mediation;
  • Manages the process and stages of mediation;
  • Has a thorough knowledge of the content of arrangements (working with interests, alternatives, objective criteria);
  • Helps the parties to work out solutions and move to dispute resolution;
  • is a driving force for negotiations and promotes them through active engagement with the parties.



Task of the first module is to:

• Provide participants with a broader vision of possible ways to resolve conflicts

• Develop skills to effectively resolve disputes in one or more days

• Learn how to add value to disputes by helping parties find commercially viable solutions

• Familiarize yourself with post-mediation support for resolved conflict

• Prepare for providing consultations on options and methods for possibly applying other effective dispute resolution techniques

Contents of the first module:

  • Investigation of the process of mediation as such and the role of the mediator in this process
  • The competence of the mediator
  • The role of the mediator
  • Comparative characteristics of mediation with other ways of resolving disputes
  • Structure and process steps
  • Developing the necessary communication skills (working with questions, positive language, reflection, reframing, reality test, rephrasing, etc.)
  • Developing techniques to help parties shift focus from their positions to mutually acceptable solutions for both (all) parties

Task of the second module:

  • Further development of participants' mediation skills, including interest research, paraphrase, numeracy, etc.
  • Improving each participant's skills by providing individual feedback

Contents of the second module:

The module aims to develop specific mediator skills acquired in the first module. In particular, deeper elaboration of specific topics will be reviewed:

  • Usage of private meetings before the formal opening of mediation
  • Risk assessment
  • Assisting parties in the transition from clarifications in the positions to negotiation
  • Overcoming differences (narrowing the gap between positions)
  • Encouraging parties to develop options and solutions to conflict resolution
  • Management of expectations
  • Work with visualization
  • Non-verbal communication
  • Time management
  • Formulation of topics for research
  • Analysis, summarization of information obtained during the study
  • Numeracy

Tuition fee: 15 800 UAH (without VAT) for modular payment. If a single payment is made before the start of the program, the total amount will be UAH  14 900 (excluding VAT).

Since 2009, Victoria Eidemiller has become recommended Gestalt Therapist of the Moscow Gestalt Institute, since 2013 -- the group psychotherapist of the International School of Group Psychotherapy COIRAG, Italy.

 Halyna Yeromenko -- Ph.D., Head of the Ukrainian Mediation Center; Senior Researcher at the V.M.Koretsky Institute of state and law of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. CEDR-accredited mediator (UK), member of CEDR traners-network

After passing the two modules, participants will receive a certificate from the Ukrainian Mediation Center and the Kyiv Mohyla Business School [kmbs] to complete a basic course that entitles them to conduct mediation independently and to participate in special courses "Family Dispute Mediation" and "The Art of Mediation"


2 modules of 3 days from 9-30 to 18-30.


There are no requirements for participants other than their desire to be active in the group through role-playing and interactive exercises. There are also no specific requirements for in-depth knowledge of the law and the level of professional experience
